Yea Big + Kid Static

By: R.M. London

After I took my first sip of Yea Big (pronounced YAY Big) and Kid Static I was immediately hooked. Sure, one could say that they sound like a throwback Pharcyde tribute duo, but who couldn’t use a little more noise from the far side? Who couldn’t use a lot more fun? I was just telling my friends a few days ago that hip hop was beginning to lose its entire luster for me. Even though that is such a cliché thing to say nowadays, I truly felt that I had flooded my ears to its capacity. But, Yea Big and Static caught my attention, and it wasn’t because of the white dude’s short-shorts.

With their new self titled debut album Yea Big and Static prove once again that Chi-town has good genetics. The self proclaimed “Retro Futuristic Hip Hoppers” are down with OCD and claim to be making ‘the fun hip hop that provides the soundtrack for your next dance off.’

After combining forces in 2005 on a hip hop message board these two lifelong b-boys started making sweet music together and quickly formed a serendipitous bond like Barney and Fred. Now, the dastardly duo are rocking shows for Michigan meth farmers, Cape Cod yacht rockers, Los Angeles PDA pushers, and every loony toon in between. You all ready to play grab ass and get your titties twisted?

If you all think the Midwest DOESN’T have hip hop on lock right now you need to get your earlobes in a wheelchair and scoot your ass to the nearest ER. Chi-Town and Minnesota have this game on lock and it’s about time we pay homage with our undivided attention.

Yea Big and Kid Static...

Got Next.
